Roaring Like a Lion
“The throne had six steps, and a footstool of gold was attached to it. On both sides of the seat were armrests, with a lion standing beside each of them.” – 2 Chronicles 9:18
It’s New Year’s Eve. Not quite a week has gone by since the massive tornado struck Garland and Rowlett. We were done for the day. I walked back to the car.
Though I had been through this area 2 or 3 times, it was the last time that I noticed this lion statue in the front yard. I kicked myself for not having my DSLR with me to do what I wanted with this photo. But I think it is best the way it is.
Seeing a symbol of strength juxtaposed and still standing against the wreckage of the tornado gave me hope for the people affected. This image brought many other images to mind. From the bible, other books, songs and movies, all I could think of were lions I had run across before. But none like this one. As I searched around for words to accurately describe this hope, this resonated the most with me.
“Wrong will be right, when Aslan comes in sight,
At the sound of his roar, sorrows will be no more,
When he bares his teeth, winter meets its death,
And when he shakes his mane, we shall have spring again.”
― C.S. Lewis,
While I still cannot fathom the loss, there is one thing that remains – Hope. What’s the alternative?
